Description:
There are two major types of diabetes mellitus: Insulin
dependent juvenile diabetes (IDDM-Type I) in which the body is unable
to produce insulin and non-insulin-dependent adult-onset diabetes
(NIDDM-Type II) in which the pancreas produces insulin, but it is
insufficient for reducing the blood glucose to normal levels.
Symptoms:
In Type I, there is excessive thirst, hunger,
urination and dehydration, often accompanied by weight loss. Currently,
insulin injections are the only known method of control. In Type
II, which usually occurs during middle age, the symptoms are the
same except that there is weight gain.
